Pacoima cleanup dog attack injures sanitation worker and LAPD officer
LAPD said a large dog repeatedly bit a sanitation worker and an officer during an April 28 Pacoima cleanup; both were hospitalized, and the dog was fatally shot during the response.
Incident summary
LAPD said a large dog emerged from near a parked RV and attacked a Los Angeles Sanitation employee during a CARE+ cleanup in Pacoima. Officers intervened, and the dog redirected its attack toward an officer. The Sanitation employee and officer sustained multiple bite injuries. An officer-involved shooting followed; the dog was struck and died. A LAHSA employee had a separate minor abrasion, and all three injured people were transported for medical treatment.
LAPD Force Investigation Division assumed responsibility for reviewing the officer-involved shooting. The reviewed sources did not establish an owner citation, dangerous-dog adjudication, criminal charge related to the dog, or final investigative finding. The dog’s remains were taken to Los Angeles Animal Services for necropsy.
