Jamie Boyd remained in critical condition weeks after his attorney said seven dogs mauled him while he walked to his mailbox.
Incident summary
Jamie Boyd, 81, was walking to his mailbox on Ingate Road in Centreville when, according to his family’s attorney, seven dogs attacked him. He suffered catastrophic injuries and remained in critical condition in the UAB ICU weeks later, with his attorney saying doctors were considering amputations because of infection. His wife witnessed the attack and attempted to help. A later civil lawsuit alleged negligence and other claims against the dogs’ owners.
The Boyd family later filed a civil lawsuit alleging negligence, wantonness, strict liability and emotional distress. Civil allegations are recorded as allegations and not findings of liability.
